Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter Fitness Mentoring

Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter Fitness Mentoring

by Bros. Jamaal Green and CPittmanIII

February 8, 2025 – Decatur, Georgia - On this Saturday morning at Miller Grove High School, KAA brothers conducted an easygoing physical and mental health session for dozens of students.

Bro. Darius Brown, 4-?T-17, led an energetic presentation to enlighten the students (from 7th grade - 12th grade) about the benefits of both physical exercise and a balanced nutritional diet. He expressed how these lifestyle factors can affect not only one’s outer appearance but brain health as well. Brown engaged and informed the students as he led the presentation and activities, including a session of light calisthenics. To end the session, he coached the students on how to make homemade granola, as an alternative to many unhealthy snacks.

Students in this session also included young men, who are tagged Omega KNIGHTS (Knowledgeable Noble Individuals Geared Heavily Towards Success). The KNIGHTS, who are middle to high school grade students, have been under the guidance of DeKAAtur brothers for approximately seven years.

KAA brothers attempted to inspire these students to effortlessly implement exercise and nutritional eating into their daily and weekly schedules. With Dekalb County’s communities and school programs under extra scrutiny, funding for holistic health programs is challenged; thus, decreasing the availability and consumption of nutritious foods, as well as regular physical activity opportunities. By making homemade granola and performing calisthenics, the Bruhz believe these students are more knowledgeable, disciplined and able to prepare a more nutritious snack or perform fitness exercises.

On this same morning in a learning lab on the campus of Georgia Tech, KAA brothers guided other members of the KNIGHTS in learning the basics of AI (Artificial Intelligence) and how to code. KAA is currently lead by Brothers: Basileus Tim Roberson, Vice Basileus Clint Raines, Sam Rhue, the Fatherhood and Mentoring chair, and Jamaal Green, the KNIGHTS chair.
