KAA at the Capitol’s annual Omega Day

Atlanta, GA February 11th, 2025 -- The State of Georgia Organization hosted its annual Omega Day at the Capitol. The Kappa Alpha Alpha Chapter brothers capitalized on the opportunity and interacted with State and Senate Legislators, simultaneously bills were being generated at committee levels before advancing to the House and Senate floors.
Also, on this day, the President continued to sign Executive Orders in the nation’s capital which impacted many American citizens, including, government operations, border security and immigration, and trade and foreign affairs, to name a few.
At the Georgia state level, a number of legislative action considerations were moving including: HB 111 & 112 – State Income Tax Reduction; SB 123 - Legislation to Combat School Absenteeism which would prohibit schools from expelling students based solely on absenteeism, and adopt policies that support struggling students with absenteeism; SB 128 - Invest in Georgia Public Schools with grants to eligible local units of administration for students living in poverty; and HB 340 - Cell Phone Usage - titled the “Distraction-Free Education Act.” - require public schools to enact policies for the use of personal electronic devices at schools - kindergarten through eighth grade.
Additionally, with brothers present from across the region, KAA Chapter Bro Congressman Omari Crawford recited House Resolution 224 to honor KAA Bro Alonzo Bennett. The Resolution stated that the House of Representatives, on February 10, 2025, recognized and commended Bro Bennett for his remarkable contributions and lifetime commitment to Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. as well as extend best wishes for future health and happiness.
Penned in the Resolution were Bennett’s contributions which included: 50 years of devoted service to his fellow citizens; Service as the vice Georga state representative from 1984 to 1985 and later served as the sixth Georgia state representative from 1985 to 1987; Chief of staff to the late Brother Ronald J. Taylor, Georgia’s 12th state representative; and Chief of staff for the 36th Gran Basileus Lloyd J. Jordan as the sixth international executive director of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Also, Bennett was one of 12 Charter members of KAA, where he also served as the first chapter basileus; Bennett was initiated into the Beta Epsilon Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. at Knoxville College on November 12, 1970; awarded KAA Chapter’s Omega Man of the Year, the Seventh District Omega man of the Year, the Superior Service Award, the Distinguished Service and Leadership Award; and a life member in Omega.
KAA Chapter is led by Bros Basileus Tim Roberson and Vice Basileus Clint Raines.
